Summer 2011Bringing Electricity to Tanzania
Rhonda Jordan, native of Clinton, Maryland, has co-founded EGG-energy, a start-up company that connects low-income customers and small businesses in East Africa to electricity through a battery swapping service. Jordan earned two degrees in electrical engineering at Columbia University before arriving at MIT.

N200 solar light bulb
Nokero makes solar lights and chargers to meet the needs and budgets of communities living without access to electricity. The N200 bulb captures sunlight and efficiently converts it into electricity, storing energy in a reusable battery. When properly charged, the N200 can provide up to 7 hours of clean and sustainable light via 4 LEDs.
